Hello! I’ve already talked about why This Creative Life is a little quiet this summer, but I miss checking in! How has your writing been going this summer? With the final touches on my 2024 book done, I’ve found myself almost overwhelmed with ideas and energy. My middle-grade contracts have been a sort of a dam keeping those ideas at bay for a few years, and the floodgates are now open. The tricky bit has been taming that creative flow. I think I’ve picked The One to focus on, but I’m also trying to hold that loosely even as I establish some regular writing time around it.
How about you? What are you working on? If you’ve been looking for an agent or editor, I know summer can suck as the waits get even longer. What are you doing to keep yourself interested in the process of a longtime project, or where are you finding energy for a new one?
Hi Sara! I'm waiting for editorial notes on my MG fantasy and trying to get started on something new. Also trying to give myself permission to read more. It always feels like there are so many other things I am supposed to be doing instead.
Hi! I haven't been working on anything this summer though I keep buying notebooks and writing my name in them. It's the summer of the blank page. Reading a lot. Hoping for a shift in the fall.
On submission and trying not to think too much about the summer lull. Working on a new manuscript and waiting (ugh — so much waiting) on permission to make an official announcement.
