Every episode of This Creative Life is special, of course, but this one was extra-special for me. I’ve had a para-social relationship with Dave Holmes since I was in my late twenties and he was my favorite MTV VJ. Back then, sitting on my couch watching Say What? Karaoke and wondering if I’d ever be a writer, I never could have imagined our paths crossing as they have. You’ll have to listen to the episode to find out how that happened!
In it, we talk about Dave’s long and winding road to writing his wonderful 2016 memoir, Party of One, his writing at Esquire, and how it all connects to his current podcast project, Waiting for Impact. We talk ADHD, burnout, the “who cares” chorus, the longing to be understood, and the obsessions that drive us. And a whole lot more.
Find it wherever you get podcasts or click the pink headphones below. Ellen Pompeo, don’t come for us.

Coming up next…
Next week, Andrew DeYoung and I will be back with episode 2 of The Launch Box, right here in the main podcast feed. The topics are blurbs and covers. Also, Andrew gets his first trade review for The Temps and I do a real-time update of the This Creative Life pre-orders.
All of this comes to you ad-free and, well, free-free. If you’d like to help pay the podcast bills, you can make a one-time donation here and/or shop in the This Creative Life Bookshop Shop and/or buy my books! Thank you!
