For the last episode of 2022 I sat down with Michael Bourret of Dystel, Goderich & Bourret LLC—who has been my agent for nearly eighteen years—and we talked about the major trends and events in the publishing industry this year. (Or I should say, this year up to 12/9, when we recorded this.)
From supply chain issues to changes in bookselling to the HarperCollins strike to the rise of AI, it was a lot! The intersection of art and commerce has only gotten trickier to navigate, if you dare. We also did a little forecasting and answered listener questions.
Oh, and of course I got Michael’s perspective on the topic of pivots and reinventions. I always love talking to him, and hope you find his reality-based insights helpful!
Find it wherever you get podcasts, or listen directly right here.
⏸️ And now we press pause on the podcast as I prepare for and then execute my January teaching residency, and perhaps revise my novel. It will probably be February before I make new interview episodes, but there will still be some activity on the newsletter. ⏸️
Thank you for being there this year, and happy holidays!
This Creative Life is a book, a newsletter, and a podcast from me, Sara Zarr, about reading between the lines of a writing life. The newsletter and podcast are free; buying the book (and leaving a great review!) helps support them and me. Sharing the newsletter is a big help, too! Look for holiday pricing on all formats through 12/21/22.
